As the proud owner of a new Honda Civic, you probably want to keep your vehicle running as well as the day you bought it. That can only be done by keeping up with the recommended maintenance schedule set by the vehicle manufacturer.
The Honda Civic is equipped with the Honda Maintenance Minder system. By using a simple code, your vehicle’s computer will tell you what services you need to get done and when. That way, you can simply take your vehicle into the local Honda Service Center near Palm Beach,Greenacres, and Boca Raton, and the service technicians will know what to do. All the information you need to make your appointment and to decode the Maintenance Minder system is below.
Decoding the Honda Civic Maintenance Minder System
The code that makes up your Maintenance Minder system is very simple in its construction; once you’re used to it, it should be easy to decode. We’ll provide an outline of the two parts of the code now to get you started.
Part 1: Letters in the Code
The first part of the Maintenance Minder code is either the letter A or B. These letters come up quite often, but don’t often appear at the same time. Let’s dive in and see what each code means.
The letter A is the most common code on the Honda Civic. This service will need to be done at least once annually and includes a regular oil change service. It’s simple and quick, so don’t worry if this code comes up. Just take your vehicle in for a regular oil change and oil filter replacement. This service ensures that your engine doesn’t overheat.
The letter B is the second most common code on the Honda Civic. This service will also need to be done at least once annually. It includes all of code A, in addition to a full vehicle inspection and rear brake inspection. During this visit, we’ll look at the suspension system, fluid levels and conditions, driveshaft boots, and more.
Part 2: Numbers in the Code
The second part of the Maintenance Minder code consists of numbers. These are designed to tell you or the maintenance team about specific needs the vehicle has. Here are the numeral codes you’ll see over the lifetime of the Honda Civic:
- Tire rotation is necessary.
- Air cleaner element replacement and drive belt inspection is necessary.
- Vehicle transmission fluid needs replacement.
- Spark plug replacement and/or valve clearance inspection are required.
- Engine coolant needs replacement.
- Brake fluid needs replacement.
