Discovering the Meaning Behind the Maintenance Minder™ Codes

The 2017 Honda Pilot is equipped with the Maintenance Minder™ system, a coding system that illuminates a short code onto your vehicle’s dashboard under the “Maintenance Due Soon” light. The codes are a combination of letters and numbers, and each piece indicates a specific service needed. For your convenience, we’ve broken it all down below.

Maintenance Minder™ Main Items: First Half

The first half of the Maintenance Minder™ code will be a letter. The A indicates that your vehicle needs an oil change. This light should pop up about once per year. The B indicates that your vehicle needs an oil change, plus a full vehicle inspection. It may also need a parking brake adjustment, brake work, or topped-off fluids. This light will likely pop up once a year also, in rotation of the A code.

If neither code pops up within a 6-month time period, you should schedule a service appointment and get an oil change anyway. This is a necessary service about every six months or every 5,000 to 6,000 miles.

Maintenance Minder™ Sub Items: Second Half

The second half of the Maintenance Minder™ code will be a number between 1 and 6. This light indicates additional services your vehicle needs during your regular maintenance appointment. These are simple and easily decoded as below:

  1. Vehicle needs a tire rotation.
  2. Vehicle needs an air cleaner element and/or dust and pollen filter replacement, as well as drive belt inspection.
  3. Vehicle needs a transmission fluid and transfer-case fluid replacement.
  4. Vehicle needs spark plug and/or timing belt replacement, and valve clearance and water pump need inspections.
  5. Vehicle engine coolant needs replacement.
  6. Vehicle rear differential fluid needs replacement.Honda Pilot Maintenance Schedule
